In october 2022 there was a serious accident when a person drove it´s car of a cliff on the island of Grímsey and landed upside down in a rocky shore. We tried to fly out to the island on our fixed wing air ambulance but the weather was to bad so we had to turn back. Sending rescue ships was not an option both due to the weather and big waves. Not many people live on the island and only a few first responders where there but had very limited gear and resources. While we were thinking of how we could help them out an idea of making a video call to the island made a huge different and gave us very important information on the patient status, his injuries etc. It was also a big help to the first responders on scene who were in circumstances beyond their capacity and it helped them get on top of things. In this lecture i will go through the rescue mission in a time line and talk about the many obsticles we ran into, what we have learned from this and how we see the future regarding the use of technology in situations like this, when you can´t get on scene with your patient.
