On Sunday, after the conference, we have organized an day tour with some of ICE-SAR´s super jeeps. The aim is to introduce our participants ICE-SAR‘s use of super jeeps in SAR and take a look at the newest lava in Iceland, Geldingadalir, where ICE-SAR spent hundreds of hours last year working due to the eruption.
Participants will be picked up in Harpa Conference hall at 12:30 sharp. Be sure to bring warm clothes for rain and/or snow, including hats and mittens.
The tour will start by visiting Seltún, a colorful geothermal area right by the road and easily accessible.
From there we will head to Geldingadalir, where a volcanic eruption started 19th of March 2021 and ended on the 18th of September 2021. Here you will be able to explore the beautiful aftermath of the eruption.
Our next stop will be at the base of SAR Þorbjörn in Grindavík, where we will see a short introduction about the operations regarding the eruption, amazing pictures and hear stories from the locals.
After having traditional Icelandic dinner we will head to the Blue Lagoon where we relax and enjoy the beautiful scenario the Blue Lagoon has to offer.
Arrival back to Reykjavík is between 21:30 and 22:30. Light snack, dinner and admission fee is included in the tour.
