I have worked in the ambulance service since 2004 and for the last 11 years I have worked as an Advanced Paramedic Practitioner in Critical Care with the London Ambulance Service NHS Trust. During this time I have also worked for Magpas Air Ambulance and London's Air Ambulance. My career has given me many opportunities to develop and learn. During my career I have been involved in mentoring, coaching, teaching, guest lecturing and quality improvement projects, all of which have developed me as a clinician. I have an interest in human performance under stress, management of paediatric cardiac arrest and how we can improve the clinical response to multi patient incidents. My interest on major incidents has developed from my own personnel and my colleagues experiences of attending complex and major incidents.
My talk focuses on mine and my colleagues experiences and learning of attending major incidents in London. I would also discuss learning from other incidents that have happened in the UK in the past few years including Manchester and Southport. The purpose of my talk is to highlight the true reality of attending such events and the long term impact it can have on clinicians. I would also discuss the role of critical care clinicians, critical thinking and decision making especially at events involving a large number of patients with penetrating injury.
