Brock Jenkins is a student doctor, critical care flight paramedic, and Fellow of Extreme and Wilderness Medicine. Drawing on experience spanning high-altitude rescue in the Colorado Rockies to humanitarian missions in Haiti, Palestine, and Ukraine, he specializes in rural retrieval, clinical education, and prehospital POCUS. Brock focuses on the practical application of advanced technologies in low-resource environments; specifically those that offer the highest clinical dividends. His mission is to empower rescue clinicians with a tool that enhances their existing physical assessment, allowing them to do what they already do, just better.
Austere environments demand a nuanced approach to the critically ill, especially when care is prolonged and resources are scarce. This session introduces a simplified, high-yield POCUS framework designed specifically for these realities. Moving beyond unnecessary gadgetry, we focus on the most practical exams (Heart, Lung, IVC, Ocular) that drive immediate clinical decisions regarding austere resuscitation and transport. Attendees will leave with an evidence-based strategy to integrate ultrasound into their existing workflows, enhancing their physical assessment when timelines are unpredictable and isolation is the defining factor.
