In this session, Julie will use photos and case review to present two SAR cases in Alaska: a prolonged search for a lost hiker with bears nearby, and a pelvic fracture at the base of a remote waterfall. Through this, we will share lessons learned about crew resource management, managing community and untrained volunteers, unique operations in bear country, using air assets, patient care, the value of local knowledge and tenacity, and more.
