Internationally recognized as a expert on team performance, Utah State University (USA) Professor Scott Hammond is also a veteran of over 500 search and rescue missions. His recent book, "Highly Reliable Teams," identifies nine characteristics your SAR team needs to consistently deliver the best results. Dr. Hammond is the author of six books and numerous articles. He appears regularly on media, and is in demand as a speaker and trainer. But he interrupts his work when there is a call out. "The most rewarding thing I do outside the door of my home is to join my brothers and sisters on our SAR team and help someone on the worst day of their life," he says. "My team has taught me the power of a common purpose, and the deep joy of caring for team mates and others."
There are nine things the best SAR teams do to consistently and safely succeed on their missions. Your team probably has some, and it is likely they are missing some. They are not related to expertise, technical training, gear and equipment, or even organizational structure. They are related to human behavior and team culture. This (workshop and/or lecture) is about building a team culture of high reliability. Dr. Hammond shows how the right team culture can enhance performance and reduce the impact of stress. It begins with surveying your team and identifying strengths and weaknesses. It continues with having the difficult conversations about how you can better work together. And it ends with a commitment to continuous improvement and follow up. In this workshop/lecture you will 1) Learn the nine characteristics of highly reliable teams. 2) Assess your SAR team using the HRT AI. 3) Build plans to preserve strengths and eliminate weaknesses. 4) Have a specific plan to measure your progress towards becoming a highly reliable team. This workshop/book is based on Dr. Hammond book "Highly Reliable Teams," published in 2024.
