I am an anesthesiologist living in Akureyri, Iceland. I have been a flight doctor for almost three decades, in USA, Iceland, Norway and Greenland, including HEMS, SARH and fixed-wing services. My research has mostly focused on air ambulance services and lately on locating bases for optimal response time and prehospital time.
I will show results of my research on good and fair locations for new helicopter ambulance bases in Iceland using location covering models. I will also demonstrate how a Shiny app can be used to calculate prehospital times and select the optimal combination of transport modes (road, helicopter or fixed-wing ambulance) to deliver patients to hospitals in Reykjavík or Akureyri.
