The lecture concerns the potential use of infrared cameras in search and rescue operations. The Árnessýsla Fire Department began using infrared cameras in their operations in 2012.  In 2016, the department held a course for instructors at a national level where instructors were trained in the use of infrared cameras. The teachers came from the fire brigade of Bergen, Norway. Infrared cameras were also installed on all the department’s fire engines and equipment vehicles. The introduction of the new infrared cameras and the procedures used to operate them have shown that this equipment can be used for various functions beside firefighting activities. We intend to introduce these possibilities in our presentation at RESCUE 2018. Firefighters from the Árnessýsla Fire Department have joined local SAR teams and other responders in many operations where the infrared cameras have proved to be useful. In conjunction with this lecture, conference guests will be invited to try out the infrared cameras at the Björgun EXPO. Further information is provided in the conference schedule.
