This is the story of an emergency callout on the Grímsfjall mountain, where a signal was received from an emergency locator transmitter in a glacial area. There was a great deal of uncertainty during the callout, and weather conditions and communications problems only made things worse.  Teams were sent to the glacier from three directions to ensure the best possible response. The scope of the operation was widened as more information was received. All operations control work was centered around obtaining the most detailed information for rescuers, so they could safely move around the area.  Despite a great deal of pressure on operations control staff, they remained focused on the task at hand, not allowing circumstances to disrupt their concentration. It is the unanimous opinion of those involved in this operation that it was conducted in accordance with a tried and tested response plan. The way in which tasks were performed was exemplary, resulting in two human lives being saved and the safe return home of the individuals concerned that night with us.
