Weather is an integral part of all SAR operations and training. It is especially important in climates and locations like Iceland, with its rapid and ever changing conditions. Laying ground for the understanding of the subject meteorology for rescuers is therefore important and a role that the ICE-SAR school can undertake through its course system. It increases understanding that can lead to making better informed decisions in the field and for course and tour planning. We have developed a short introduction and started to compose a course series on the various subjects of weather and meteorology as a part of the CE-SAR school course catalogue. The courses consist of self-paced online introduction, followed by a lecture based basics course with intermediate additions as a part of the advanced and instructor courses in wilderness survival and navigation (í. ferðamennska og rötun). Participants learn how to approach weather and its forecast and limitations from a perspective of a professional, with practical applications and understanding for use in planning. This talk introduces these courses and their development, outlines the coming development in the next year and showcases its use and importance across all SAR disciplines.
