This presentation is by two retired volunteers who conducted dozens of interviews over their 26 year SAR career. We have learned information during interviews that lead to finding the subject on multiple missions. Our goal was to learn as much as we could about the subject that can be used to develop the subject profileWe will be sharing skills and techniques that we have used to tease out that little bit extra information beyond what Law enforcement typically uncovers, including the following:• How we structure our interviews• Why we interview as a team• When we sense we have learned as much as we can from the interview• We will share mission examples how the interview helped locate the missing person• We can also share our interview question list developed by the presentersOur goal is for the attendees to leave our presentation with new skills they can use on their next search.
Joanne and Greg Varney were search and rescue volunteers from 1996 until their retirement in 2025. They responded to hundreds of search and rescue missions for missing people, conducting interviews of family members on many of those missions. They responded to missing person and human remains searches in urban areas, wilderness, mudslides, and building collapses.
