Created a database in 2003 to oversee the activity of HSSK members in a system that we call the HSSK Attendance System. When HSSK members arrive at the rescue coordination centre, they can enter their name into a system that records who take part at each time. Now, almost 20 years later, 975 members have logged in to the system 78,000 times for over 8,000 operations. Over this period, over 700 people have joined the team. We look at how many people complete training for new recruits, and whether attendance during the training period can provide any predictions on activity in 5-10 years and how long the volunteer will remain active. We will consider whether there’s anything in the data that can explain why some people quit right away, others after a few years and some never.
