Following the 2019 landslide in Seyðisfjörður in the east of Iceland the Icelandic Red Cross opened a mass care shelter and information centre for close to 600 people. All recidents in this small remote town were evacuated hours before the landslide and a few days before Christmas. The Red Cross volunteers were faced with a challenging project in the midst of a global pandemic with strict social distancing mandates in place.
