Hrafnhildur Ævarsdóttir

Hrafnhildur started in ICE-SAR in 2015 when she joined HSSK for training, Hjálpasveit skáta Kópavogi. She soon after moved east to Skaftafell where she joined the SAR unit Kári. Hrafnhildur works at Vatnajökull National Park where she has been a ranger but now works as a park manager. She has sometimes been called a hyperactive bookworm, as she equally likes to be out and about hiking mountains and enjoying a good book.

Opportunity and challenges in small units at ICE-SAR

Unknown time for now

Over 90 SAR units operate around Iceland, several with hundreds of members while others have less than fifty, some even fewer. Each unit works and operates in different environments alongside other first responders in the area. For smaller SAR units, roles and call-outs can fall on the same shoulders compared to units with more members. Lets not forget, there is also strength in small numbers among ICE-SAR units in Iceland.
