At 2.11pm on 9 December 2019, Whakaari/White Island erupted 48 kilometres off the coast from Whakatane, New Zealand. At the time of the eruption there were 47 people on the island, 22 of whom perished. This presentation will give an insight into Matt's roles; firstly, as the Police Liaison based at New Zealand's Rescue Coordination Centre and secondly as part of the Scientific Technical Advisor Committee, providing risk assessments to the Police Executive, the Police Major Operations Centre and the local Incident Management team.
