The unrest in Bárðarbunga volcano and the volcanic eruption in Holuhraun. When the unrest in the volcano Bárðarbunga started during late summer 2014 that brought on the largest Civil Protection operation in later years. The volcanic eruption in Holuhraun began at the end of August 2014 and it ended in late February 2015. During the operation many decisions were made, some of them were accepted as self evident while others were disputed. In this presentation Mr. Víðir Reynisson will give an account of the decision process at the upper tiers of government  regarding the eruption response, who took part in the decision process and the effect those decisions had.  During the eruption period Mr. Víðir Reynisson was the head of the Department of Civil Protection and Emergency Management of the National Commissioner of the Icelandic Police. A great amount of money was spent on operations; descisions on spenditure will be covered as well as the auditory process for the money spent. Mr. Víðir Reynisson asks whether we can learn something from this operation and wheather we should change the descision making process in such operations.
