Ólafur Jón Jónsson

Ólafur Jón Jónsson joined Hjálparsveit skáta í Reykjavík as a trainee in 2009 and became a qualified SAR member in 2011. Since that time he has served as a board member, managed team training groups and been a member of the SAR-ICE Council on Search Techniques. He has been involved in the use of drones in SAR operations since 2015 and is currently an instructor in drone-related matters for the ICE-SAR Rescue School.

Drones are increasingly being used in search and rescue operations in Iceland. They are present all around the country and are in many places a seamless part of the daily response. But everything can be improved upon and now it is prudent to evaluate how we have done and where we can do better. There are many indications that there is room for improvement which leads to better results in the work being done. The presentation touches on a few areas where SAR personnel can do better in callouts and exercises.
