Christopher S. Young has been active in Search and Rescue since 1981, managed searches since 1986, is the past reserve Captain for the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s SAR Team and serves as chairman of the Bay Area Search and Rescue Council, Inc. (BASARC). Chris is an Instructor Trainer for the “Managing the Lost Person Incident” and “Urban Search Management” (developed by Chris) for the National Association for Search and Rescue (NASAR) as well as specialized topics in Search Management, including Search Management in the Urban Environment, and Investigation and Interviewing in SAR. Chris has also written, published and presented search management papers at the United States NASAR conferences, the Canadian SARSCENE conferences, the William Syrotuck Symposiums on Search Theory and Practice, as well as at International Conferences in New Zealand, Iceland and Norway. He is also co-author of the book “Urban Search – Managing Missing Person Searches in the Urban Environment”
Every day around the world, persons suffering from Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia become confused and disoriented and wander off from their caregivers. Law enforcement officers, and search and rescue teams, areoften called to respond to these persons missing at risk incidents. These calls are becoming more and more commonplace, yet those responding underestimate the severity of danger that a wandering Alzheimer’s person faces. This presentation will provide the first responder with an introduction of the needed information and skills to successfully manage these types of incidents.
